IPS Commons was launched in 2012. It is a platform to promote and showcase rational discussion of public policy ideas in Singapore, so as to expand the intellectual space and increase the quality of public engagement on national issues. IPS Commons is managed by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), an autonomous think-tank at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.
IPS studies and generates public policy ideas across the following areas:
This research programme analyses the social and economic impact of Singapore’s ageing society, ultra-low fertility, longer life and health expectancy, and migration. It examines changes to family structures, employment, entrepreneurship, productivity, savings, and investment, and their policy implications.
This research programme examines developments in this area, and considers measures to limit the negative trends.
This research programme tracks our growing diversity and its implications for national identity, social cohesion and capital, community resilience and governance
This research programme seeks out useful ideas and comparative experience that can be realistically applied or creatively adapted to help policymakers in the key sectors of the country build towards sustainable economic and social vibrancy.
IPS is also home to the IPS Social Lab, an independent centre for social indicators research.
The essays published on IPS Commons are authored by IPS researchers and the Institute’s network of academics, policymakers and social commentators. Contributions are welcome and further details are available here.
